On the Shores of Qingdao (在青岛海边上) reflects the composer’s visits to the seaside of the city of Qingdao located in the Shandong Province of China. On the shore, the waves and wind are at play while the sounds of nearby street performers linger in the air. These performers are playing the melodies that they’ve always known: Shandong folk songs.
